Maestro’s Lifestyle Session

Maestro is heading off to Uganda for a few months for his job. Before he left, we decided to do a fun shoot in Piedmont Park. The shoot started off with a few cool looks with the new shades Maestro just bought for his trip.

After a couple of more shots on the bridge, we began to explore the park to let the fun begin!

THE FU, Orphan Epidemic and NightLight Atlanta Team Up to Protect Children

On Thursday, I had the opportunity to learn about two amazing organizations: Orphan Epidemic and NightLight! On top of all that, I got to enjoy the amazing sounds of THE FU! If you’ve never heard Josh and Jacob play, then you are in for a treat; I couldn’t stop tapping my foot, bobbing my head, and humming along while they played. You definitely need to check them out!

Orphan epidemic works to prevent children from becoming orphans by addressing the root causes of extreme poverty and treatable diseases.

According to their website, “NightLight Atlanta is a grassroots, faith-based initiative in Metro Atlanta that addresses the complex issues of the commercial exploitation of women and children (domestic and foreign) through prevention, intervention, restoration, and education.”

During the evening, representatives from Orphan Epidemic and NightLight explained their respective causes.

The event was held at The Flying Biscuit, and THE FU kept everyone entertained as they enjoyed their meals. Josh and Jacob are quite a talented duo!

On top of playing guitar, Josh also plays percussion.

THE FU donated part of the proceeds from t-shirt sales and tips to the two organizations present that night. The t-shirts are super soft. I just had to buy one!

Orphan Epidemic also accepted donations at its table. Donations from Thursday’s event are going towards Orphan Epidemic’s ”100 BioSand Filters. 100 Families” initiative. Why water, you ask? Well, Orphan Epidemic explains that “the basis of sustained health and economic development comes from access to clean water. Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases. A recent UN publication reports that water contributes to poverty alleviation.”

Last, but not least, I have to give a shout-out to the folks at The Flying Biscuit who graciously provided the venue for the event. In addition, they donated part of the food sales to Orphan Epidemic and NightLight, too! How cool is that?!

The beginning…

Hi! Welcome to my blog! My name is Kimberly, and I am going to be interning with Esther JuLee for the next few months. I am so excited about this new journey and how much I am going to grow over the coming weeks! When I officially started my internship a little over a week ago, I told Esther that I am interested in photographing music concerts, couples, infants and children, products as well as fine art photography. When I got home I thought, “Oh no! I hope I didn’t sound too scattered.” I hope that by the end of this internship, I will have a better idea of what area of photography I feel most passionate about.

My meeting with Esther also inspired me to start a 365 Project to push myself to shoot an image every day…well, almost every day. LOL. Below are some images from the first few days of my project.

Here’s my very first self-portrait. I think it kind of tells the story of my journey exploring and capturing the beauty of the world.

My husband and I will be celebrating our one-year anniversary next week, so I decided to take a picture of my wedding band set. I love my hubby! He truly treats me like a queen. Awww…shucks.

On Day 3, I wanted to experiment with using a gel on my flash to create a fine art image. I’m thinking about having this printed to hang on the wall in my office.

Next I headed to Apache Cafe for its Art Mondays event. It was a lot of fun! Here’s a shot of the DJ who provided the auditory backdrop for the evening.

On top of photography, I have a number of other interests, including jewelry making, music, and dance. Several years ago, I finally took a tap class. Unfortunately, one week into the class I had to have knee surgery (for an old cheerleader/dance team injury. Maybe a mouse had something to do with it too…LOL) and had to drop the class. I haven’t made it back yet, but I can’t seem to let go of the shoes. However, I still love the thought of making music with my feet.

I hope you enjoy following me during my photographic journey! I promise to update you on the highs and lows of my progress. Until next time…
